Tom Price Weather Centre

The station is powered by a Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station. The data is collected every 60 seconds and the site is updated every 5 minutes. This site and its data is collected using Weather Display Software. The station comprises of an anemometer, rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible. The software acquiring all the data is Weather Display and this also publishes everything on the Tom Price Weather site and works in conjunction with a Boltek Lightning Detector running Nexstorm software which powers StormVue and the screenshots which is web based. Nexstorm tracks storms in our area displaying the lightning activity. We can also offer an email warning system. This includes storms approaching our area, rain, low barometer, and more. All the weather monitoring equipment and software is wholly owned by MCD Concepts and is located in Tom Price.  Chris & Maxine O'Connell own MCD Concepts which hosts this site and many others.

Why is the data not being updated?

A number of reasons. Mainly because of problems with communication. Because of where we live which is fairly remote and very prone to the elements of nature, we do suffer lightning strikes which affects our local telephone exchange. Also, the fact that it is setup in our home which of course is prone to the normal home computing problems. We are taking steps to provide backup power supply systems for when we do lose power but this of course will not help if we lose communications. However, in the event of a major incident we will be available via Pilbara Iron & FESA radio systems to provide the data required.

Tom Price

Tom Price is the oldest and largest town in the Shire of Ashburton. Located approximately 1600 km from Perth, the town is situated on the edge of the Hamersley Ranges, within the Shire of Ashburton. It holds the honour of being Western Australia’s highest town at 747m above sea level, hence the name “Top Town”.

Established in 1966 to support Hamersley Iron’s Tom Price mining operations, the town has grown to become home to a variety of businesses and more than half of the Shire’s 6,900 people. Thanks to the continued expansion of iron ore mining in the region, the town is expected to experience further population growth in the coming years.
